HCMC -  A seminar on “Vietnam-Cambodia cooperation in the new ASEAN context” is scheduled to take place tomorrow, November 22, in HCMC, featuring discussions on measures to bolster business and investment cooperation in key sectors between the two countries.

As Vietnam and Cambodia share a border, businesses and residents in these border areas have conducted trading activities easily over the years. However, their cooperation, particularly among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), is in need of strategic plans to obtain more effective results.

Accordingly, the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry's (VCCI’s) Can Tho City branch and the Tien Giang Business Club in HCMC (TGB) decided to jointly organize the seminar.

The event is expected to offer a forum for enterprises to discuss and seek opportunities to tap into niche markets that draw the attention of Vietnamese and Cambodian SMEs. Also, it will feature effective solutions to encourage multifaceted cooperation.

Delegates to the event will include Oknha Leng Rithy, high-ranking advisor to Cambodian deputy prime minister; Cambodian Consul General to HCMC Sok Dareth; Bui Van, editor-in-chief for television channel FBNC; and Nguyen Phuong Lam, head of VCCI Can Tho.

Speakers at the event will talk about the current Vietnam-Cambodia trade ties and development orientations for the years to come, with cooperation opportunities for SMEs in the present context being the highlight of the presentations.

Doan Huu Duc, vice president of TGB, said that the event will not only provide participants with a complete picture of Vietnamese-Cambodian cooperative relations but will also feature discussions on investment trends, opportunities for investment cooperation and technology transfers between the two ASEAN nations.

Further, participating businesses will be briefed on ways to identify appropriate market and investment sectors such as agriculture, renewable energy and consumer goods, said Duc.

In the context that Vietnam has signed free trade agreements, including the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership and the EU–Vietnam Free Trade Agreement, the event may help Cambodian enterprises find ways to leverage the pacts for stronger growth, he added.

The organizer of the event will also introduce the Vietnam-Cambodia Business Forum and “Caravan – A Journey Connecting Vietnamese and Cambodian Businessmen” between December 5 and 8 in Cambodia.
